human race

an atom reverberates, splits in twain,
an infinity later, becomes a brain,
implants itself, develops a spine,
sparks go flying, develops a mind,
mind generates, creates, prepares,
breaks down, overthinks, despairs,
sees and sees and wants and wants,
hears in darkness forever-taunts,
desires, desires, avariciously glares,
delights in having; if empty, swears,
directs gaze outwards, never does see
that garnering things makes not one free;
hands for grasping, hands to take,
hearts and arms and treaties to break,
mouth agape, eros demolished,
rights respecting lives abolished,
colours matter when upon skin,
genders, too, and cultures, then,
and where you’re from, and what you do,
and if someone is just like you —
an atom splits, no echo there,
just one last sound.
