a song for every sun i've seen

for every sun i’ve seen thus far,
a song, a song for you,
it flows forth from my heart to yours,
and though you may not hear it yet,
for time is but our distant points,
i sing for you and every sun,
for every sun, a song;

i sing it in the evenings when
you stumble down to bed,
and when you rise just after me,
i might hum it instead
(for others in my home may sleep
much longer than us two),
for every sun i’ve seen thus far,
a song, a song for you;

i sing it hoping that you might
receive the tune someday,
that it falls into your mind,
and much like ocean spray
finds it way from clever eyes

to those fingertips of yours,
which will then relay
my abject, heartfelt scores;

for every sun i’ve seen thus far
a song, a song for you;
i sing a song for every sun,
for every sun, a song.
