beyond

Mama, I’m not afraid to die
never have been and you know why,
knew of it since I was five.
and though I do love living all the same,
I know, somewhen, where, and day
the kindest heart will come for me.

I just hope she smiles,
grins and deems me an old friend,
a confidant, a good husband.
for if she frowns upon me,
if she sees me and feels doubt,
I’ll have failed this life again.

Mama, though I’m not afraid to die,
when you go I do know I
will feel the lost for just a while.
but when you go, do so with ease,
for I promise I will be
long behind though on the trail.

and for you I know he’ll grin,
that softest-hearted gentleman
escorting you to your Beyond.
